Student Welfare

St Mary’s Primary School community believes an effective Pastoral Care and Behaviour policy is essential if we are to truly reflect the ideals expressed in the School's Vision Statement and to be able to achieve the educational aims of the school.

Child Safety

St Mary's Primary School is a child-safe school, committed to providing education and care to children and young people to assist them in developing into high-achieving, supported students, positively connected to the communities in which they live and which they will serve.

Our school regards its child safety and protection responsibilities with the utmost importance, and as such is committed to providing the necessary resources to ensure compliance with all relevant child protection laws and regulations to maintain a safe and supportive school physical and online environment for all children and young people.

Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn is committed to complying with Child Safe Standards. We have been working with our schools to meet these requirements.

At St Mary’s, keeping children safe is at the heart of everything we do. Our Child Safety Policy outlines our commitment to creating and maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students. This includes the CECG Commitment Statement, the key aspects of child safety, and how we meet the Child Safe Standards.

We think of child safety as a web of connected practices, each part working together to create a strong and secure culture of care. As a child safe organisation, we are dedicated to understanding and meeting our legal obligations, using up-to-date safeguarding practices, and involving everyone in the community, especially children and families, in keeping our students safe.

We value parents and carers as partners in their children’s learning, wellbeing, and safety. By working together, we can respond to any concerns in a timely and appropriate way, in collaboration with the relevant agencies, including child protection and police.

ALLERGIES

Some students at St Mary’s have a life-threatening allergy to nuts and other products. We are a nut free school. We ask your cooperation in maintaining the wellbeing of all students by avoiding sending in foods which may pose a risk. If your child has an allergy, please ensure that the school is fully informed of your child’s needs. An Allergy Action Plan must be submitted to the office.

HEALTH

On enrolment, an immunisation certificate must be provided for each student. In the event of an outbreak of a vaccine preventable disease at the school, unimmunised students will be required to remain at home for the duration of the outbreak. In the case of common childhood diseases parents should follow medical advice as to the period of time a student should be excluded from school. Should a student be unwell or suffer an injury, parents/carers or the emergency contact person will be notified. Please ensure your emergency contact details are kept up to date.
